Bike experience May 2, 2008
I wore these pair of real pretty shoes I got in Singapore today and it didn’t cross my mind that Singaporean shoes are probably not made for cycling. I picked up my bike today near the city centre and just as I was about to pedal off, the shoes were so slippery, it couldn’t even stay on the pedal. It was ok if I had expected it (cos I did manage to get home in one piece and once I got used to it,it was ok), but the very first time I got on the bike with these shoes, my foot slipped and I kinda had to stop the bike. And in doing so, 3 people were behind me almost crashed into each other. So of course I got scolded by the 3 people. If you think all German grandmothers are nice lovely old women who stay at home and bake delicious apple studel, think again. (Yeah, I actually thought all grandmothers are wonderful.) I could hear her swearing at me 20 metres away. So it was crappy to be scolded but at least the rest of the ride was ok.
Then, I was cycling past Nordfriedhof. There was a lot of people wearing black standing outside the church and more people wearing black walking from the carpark. You must be thinking, it’s a funeral, it’s nothing special. That’s what I would have thought too, if I didn’t see the people laughing and looking all happy. I couldn’t tell if black was the dress code for a wedding or they were pretty damn happy that someone died. Poor guy who died, if it’s a funeral. No one looked sad at all.
So there, that’s my bike experience for today. Now my poor poor feet need to rest and I will never again wear nice shoes and cycle.
Oh,and one last thing. Does anyone know how to set up internet in apartments? I have a vodafone contract with a t-mobile modem and such a combination is too complicated for someone like me.
